Hopley's Purple Oregano is an ornamental perennial grown for its aromatic foliage and airy sprays of purple bracts that create a soft, glittery display from midsummer into fall. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies, it thrives in sunny, well-drained locations and adds movement and texture to the garden.
Perfect for rock gardens, gravel gardens, borders, retaining walls, and containers where its graceful stems can spill over the edges. Pairs beautifully with lavender, salvia, yarrow, and ornamental grasses.
Plant in full sun with excellent drainage. Avoid overly rich or wet soils, particularly during winter. Shear plants lightly after flowering to stay tidy and encourage fresh growth. In colder climates, provide winter protection or grow as a container specimen that can be overwintered in a sheltered location. At our farm it requires no protection.
We grow Hopley's Purple Oregano for the incredible texture it brings to floral work. The delicate, papery flower bracts add movement and softness to bouquets, making an excellent filler alongside focal flowers. It also dries exceptionally well, extending its usefulness well beyond the growing season.
